Replying to a Message:

Normally, your reply will be to the originator of the message only so simply press "REPLY" on your e-mail program. If you press "REPLY TO ALL," your reply will go to all subscribers, perhaps needlessly. If you are responding directly to the originator, please ensure that "CA-Trainers" is not included inadvertently as an addressee or your reply will be sent unnecessarily to the entire list. If your reply contains information you wish to share with all the members of the group, you may choose to reply to the entire group by addressing the message as described in "Send a Message to all Subscribers" above.

List Etiquette:

In addition to the normal matters of net etiquette, CA-Trainers subscribers are asked to observe the following:

  1. Send a personal reply to the originator, NOT to the entire list, unless the entire list needs to see it.
  2. Use professional courtesy in sending messages to CA-Trainers so that your messages contribute to a positive experience for all readers and reflect well on you.
  3. Avoid "flame throwing," that is, inflammatory comments, insults or derogatory comments directed at others on the list.
  4. When responding to someone else's post, include some information about the issues to which you are responding. However, do not duplicate the entire original post, especially if the original is long. Follow-up messages with the same subject line will be listed in the same thread on the archive.
  5. Keep subscribers' mailboxes in mind when you draft a message. Ask yourself, is this message likely to interest CA-Trainers subscribers?
  6. Avoid postings of the "me too" variety, that is, messages that do not add further substance to the discussion.
  7. Please do not send attachments with messages to CA-Trainers. Send any information as text messages. Do not use attachments since some subscribers may not be able to read the contents of your word processing software. If you have a file to share with others, 1) ask them to request it and you can send it directly to them or, 2) ask your webmaster to post the file on your department's web site and then just e-mail the URL link to others for easy access.
  8. CA-Trainers is not for distribution of commercial messages or advertising. It is understood, however, that it may be appropriate at times in responding to questions or asking for information to include descriptions or information about commercial offerings.
